Skagway sprang up overnight as a trading post serving Klondike gold-rush pioneers: During the late 1800s, Skagway grew from one log cabin to
a town of 20,000 in three months. It lies in the Klondike Gold Rush national historical park, and is popular with tourists in summer. Demographics
as of the census of 2000, there were 862 people, 401 households, and 214 families residing in the city.
