Westwood Memorial Park. 1218 Glendon Avenue Westwood. LA.

Pierce Bros Westwood Village Memorial Park is hidden behind the towering high-rises that line

busy Wilshire Boulevard; you could easily drive right past the park without even realizing it was there.

The "Golden Age" Hollywood stars buried here include some of the biggest names in the history of Hollywood:

Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Jimmy Stewart, Jean Harlow, Humphrey Bogart, Mary Pickford, Errol Flynn, Spencer Tracy...

No other cemetery can match the sheer number of superstars that you'll find buried here at Forest Lawn Glendale.

That includes George Burns & Gracie Allen, W.C. Fields, Tom Mix, Sammy Davis Jr., Walt Disney, Red Skelton, Robert Young,

Lon Chaney, Ethel Waters, Alan Ladd, Dick Powell, Robert Taylor, Wallace Beery, Ted Knight, Sam Cooke, Joe E. Brown,

Sydney Greenstreet, Nat King Cole, Jack Oakie, Ed Wynn, Jack Carson, Norma Shearer, Chico Marx, Dorothy Dandridge,

Robert Cummings, Sid Grauman, Dan Daily, William Boyd ("Hopalong Cassidy"), Marie Dressler ("Tugboat Annie"), Irving Thalberg,

Casey Stengel, Larry Fine, Aimee Semple McPherson, Edward Everett Horton and Jean Hersholt

Looking north through its front gates, you can see the Hollywood Sign up atop the Hollywood Hills. Looking south, you can

see the historic back lot of the famous Paramount Studios. And interred throughout the cemetery grounds are some of the most

famous stars in the history of Old Hollywood, including Rudoph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, Nelson Eddy, Peter Lorre,

Janet Gaynor, Tyrone Power Clifton Webb.We will first visit the mausoleum on the far west side of the park, which is named the

"Abbey of the Psalms."  Here, you will find the crypts of actress Norma Talmadge (and her sisters Constance & Natalie); famed director

Victor Fleming, actress Joan Hackett, movie mogul Jesse Lasky, actress Darla Hood, and Charlie Chaplin Jr   Jayne Mansfield

Make a u-turn by the obelisk and head back north to Maple Avenue. Turn right (east) on Maple, and look for three small, green cypress

trees and a bed of red flowers near the curb, on the left (north) side of the road. This is the grave of Carl Switzer (1927-1959), better

known as "Alfalfa" in the "Our Gang" comedies, who was shot and killed at age 31 while arguing over a $50 reward for a dog. His

headstone bears the name "Alfalfa", as well as a portrait of a dog. Some sources say it's the "Our Gang" dog, "Petey," others disagree,

saying it represents one of Carl's 's own hunting dogs.

Sharing the grounds with Hollywood Forever, in the southwest corner, is another, smaller cemetery, named the Beth Olam Cemetery,

where infamous gangster Bugsy Siegel (1906-1947) is buried inside the large mausoleum which runs along most of the park's southwest edge.

Enter this mausoleum and turn right at the main hallway (the second hallway from the north). Head west down the corridor to the west

end of this long hallway, where there is a stained glass window of a Star of David and the words "The Alcove of Peace." Now, turn around,

and walk back (east) to the nearest doorway. Bugsy's crypt is located between this doorway and the next hallway, on the south side, three r

ows from the bottom. His crypt doesn't have a number, but it is located directly above crypt #1087 (Rebecca Levi). Bugsy's crypt has a marker

shaped like an open book, with a small Star of David above his name.

but there are still many notables to be found, including Bette Davis, Lucille Ball, Telly Savalas, William Conrad,

Buster Keaton, Liberace, Freddie Prinze, Andy Gibb, Jack Webb, Stan Laurel, Ricky Nelson and many more.
