We docked at the port of Naples and took a tour of Pompeii ruins, the Amalfi coast and had lunch in Sorrento.

Pompeii

The city of Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania, in the territory of the commune of Pompeii. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 13 to 20 ft of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

The eruption was cataclysmic for the town. The site was lost for about 1,500 years until its initial rediscovery in 1599. The objects that lay beneath the city have been well preserved for centuries because of the lack of air and moisture.

The Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast (Italian: Costiera Amalfitana) is a stretch of coastline on the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula in the Province of Salerno in Southern Italy. The Amalfi Coast is a popular tourist destination for the region and Italy as a whole, attracting thousands of tourists annually.
