Types of Dementia

Cancer
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
The three most common types of skin cancer are
basal cell carcinoma,
squamous cell carcinoma, and
melanoma. They are
categorized based on the specific type of cell in the outermost layer of the
skin (the epidermis) where the abnormal cell growth begins.
The Main Types of Skin Cancer
-
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC):
This is the most common form of skin cancer, accounting for
roughly 80% of all cases. It typically develops on areas
frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, head, and neck.
BCC grows very slowly and rarely spreads to other parts of the
body, but it can invade deeper tissues or bone if left
untreated. It often looks like a pearly, shiny, or pinkish bump.
-
-
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC):
Accounting for about 20% of cases, SCC is the second most common
type. It arises in the flat squamous cells of the upper
epidermis. While still relatively slow-growing, it is more
aggressive than BCC and has a higher risk of spreading to lymph
nodes or other organs if neglected. It often presents as a firm
red bump, a scaly crust, or a sore that heals and reopens.
-
-
Melanoma:
This is the most serious and deadliest form of skin cancer. It
begins in the melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing
skin pigment. Melanoma can grow and metastasize quickly to
internal organs if not caught early. While frequently developing
from or resembling an irregular mole on sun-exposed skin, it can
also appear in hidden areas like under nails or on the soles of
the feet.
