Port of Civitavecchia (Rome)
It is almost 50 miles to Rome from the Port of Civitavecchia and since we had already spent three days in Rome, we decided to just hang around the port.
On the main square of Civitavecchia, just before Corso Marconi, in the direction of Tarquinia, there rises the Cathedral dedicated to San Francis of Assisi, built over a church that already existed and which the Franciscan fathers has built upon concession by Pope Paul V in 1610.

A more recent monument that attracts many tourists these days is "Il Bacio Della Mare", or the kiss of the sea.
It is a 9 meter high statue of the famous kiss at Times Square concluding World War II.

The highlight was finding an outdoor market that was heavy in clothes. Two casual dresses for Gloria, four polo shirts for $7 each (no Hawaiian shirts in Civitavecchia) and six pair of Italian underwear (they call them "oui oui" holders in France) for $72. It was going to cost $60 to have similar items laundered on the ship.
